Message from the Pastor

As I write this message, we are finishing a very successful week of “Hero Central” Vacation Bible School, and I am reminded of Jesus’ words in Matthew 19:14: “Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.”

Truly we had a piece of heaven in our church with over twenty-three children filling the halls with music, laughter, and scripture-based messages. We learned about heroes of the Bible such as David and Abigail, the teaching and preaching of Jesus, and the coming of the Holy Spirit into our lives at Pentecost.

We practiced our Hero Verse for the week: “Do good! Seek peace and go for it!” (Psalm 34:14b), and learned a new Hero Code each day: “God’s Heroes Have Heart!” “God’s Heroes Have Courage!” “God’s Heroes Have Wisdom!” “God’s Heroes Have Hope!” and “God’s Heroes Have Power!”

I continue to be amazed by the way that tasks are accomplished at Church of the Covenant. Many of you prepared the program for our heroes, decorated the church, and led the many activities that VBS included. Thanks to all of you who participated.

Jesus also tells us “whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me” (Matthew 18:5). You welcomed these children and showed Christ’s love to them, and, thus you welcomed Jesus into our lives.

As we enjoy in the summer whether we are traveling or staying in the Canton area, don’t forget that we are all God’s children. Let’s welcome each and every person into our lives, no matter their age.

Grace, Barb
